If you have no idea what a MOOC is, don't feel bad. If you want to know what it is, watch this, this and then maybe this. After years of following the nutty world of Jim Groom, it seemed like a great opportunity to fuel my passion for storytelling and all that is digital to join in the fun. I've taught many courses online and while they weren't MOOCs in the pure sense, they had a flavour of openness that others could observe. I thought it would serve me well to be on the other end of such a course. And with that, my first simple effort. An animated gif from a favourite movie.
Following some of the advice from Jabiz, I used a similar approach but avoided the Photoshop step. Instead, here's my version:
1. Find a clip on Youtube
2. Using QuickTime Pro, trim the portion you want to use. (I used about 2 seconds)
3. Export as: Image Sequence
4. Found this site to upload about 8 images. I had to do it twice. The first time it was too slow. It still is a bit slow.
The others I've seen so far look way better than this. I hope they share their process.
This could be fun. You can play too.
Hey Dean,
Great Gif. I love how this thing hasn’t even begun and so many people are already eager to get started. You seem to have found the solution to the one part of the process that was bugging me, by using Quick Time Pro. I am still trying to find a solution to Export as: Image Sequence other than Gif Ninja for better quality of images. Some one sent me this site: http://www.squared5.com/ Which I will play around with tonight.

Found this great site if you don’t want to dish out the $30 bucks for Quicktime Pro-
Thanks to @peteschneider for bringing this to my attention:

Now there is no need for sloppy Gif Ninja (Quicktime Pro), you can simply import your clip into this program and export images to sequence.

Ahhh, thanks for this both Dean and Jabiz,
So you actually have to export images as a sequence, news to me. I have actually yet to do one of these new fangled images. But you all make it look so fun. What’s funny to me is [people are saying “i don;t know about that class, you all are so good at these tools (read generic “technology”). Meanwhile, I will have not ever done a majority of the assignments throughout the course. And if I did, it was simply from the last semester, but I don;t see much overlap this time around, too many badasses like you two 🙂
Also, you blog should be pulling in now, sorry for the delay.
Also, what freaking movie is this from? Is that guy hocking a luggy?
