If you haven’t already, download this poster and either send it to every teacher you know and/or print it off and place it in every school you visit or work in. Beginning today, watch for the teasers for upcoming presentations. For those who have participated in this conference, you know its value, for those who have not, buckle up, you’re in for a treat.
Oh, and did I mention is was completely free?
Keep up the good work Sir!
Interesting. I wonder what software will be required to fully participate.
Thanks Dean,
Peter, all files and presentations will be in .mp3 or mp4 format. I think we felt these are the most accessible formats. In addition, live events will likely be done via Elluminate which simply requires a java based browser. We do have an accessibility committee that will strive to make the content available to as many as possible.
The best way to make the content available is to use open and freely implementable formats. One example would be to use OGG (.oga for audio files and .ogv for video/audio). As well, provide a link to a multi-platform Free Software program that implements these formats (VLC would be an example).
Such an approach would not keep any computer user from accessing the content. Otherwise, those who use Free Software systems are left out.
Regarding Elluminate, that is great news. The last time I checked out Elluminate (this was months ago), it required installation of proprietary software in order to use it so I didn’t bother installing anything. But if now all it needs is a Java enabled browser then I’m encouraged. I use a F/OSS browser and Java is now under GPL2.
I understand it is likely too soon to implement any of these suggestions this year but perhaps the committee will take a look at these suggestions for future content/streaming solutions?
