I picked up Martha from summer art school. The following conversation ensued:
“Dad, who is your favourite artist?”
“I”m not sure, I don’t really know much about art.”
“I like Van Gogh. I remember a painting he did with stars but I can’t remember exactly what it was. When I get home I’ll google him and show you. Dad, don’t you just love google?”
Isn’t that great? Wow, times are changing in amazing ways. And scary, too.
“The Starry Night”. Martha has good taste. π
Kids say the darndest things. They are precious.
I’m convinced that two of the first words my youngest daughter could read were Twitter and Google from looking over my shoulder.
Don’t you just love the times when our children surprise us with connections. Children are such a joy.
My 12 year old came home from his first non athletic camp (game maker and toonimation) and ask me if I had heard of a program called Scratch. I responded with yes. I told him about Professor Mitch Resnick’s presentation at NECC. http://web.media.mit.edu/~mres/ He was excited to hear I had heard about it and asked if we could download and play with it.
FUN.
My youngest son, who is 28, is visiting. Biggest revelation: You’re on Twitter too? Great to add your kid to your network. Just think of it… our kids make all kinds of connections with artists, ideas, etc. , and I’m really excited that they also make new connections with us.

A provocative reply could be: “Love Google? Well, I certainly love search engines.”

It is great that kids know how and almost by reflex use the tools to get the information they want!
This makes me think of spelling a word incorrectly and being told to “Look it up in the dictionary” with the standard response being “But I don’t know who to spell it”. Oh my how times have changed.
Dean…
I can’t tell you the number of times my 8 year old son has asked me a question and when I didn’t answer quick enough (or to his satisfaction) he would huff, sigh, and say….never mind, I’ll just look it up π

Great story! Thanks for sharing and remember to print out all these stories for her to keep one day!
My 5 year old asked me a question the other day and I replied that I didn’t know the answer. She told me I better Google it and find out right away because Mom’s are supposed to know everything!
Children are amazing! My child is in kindergarten and came home talking about G! the other day!
hey…..
kids are really very nice and sweet
I think this really does highlight how the Internet, and Google in particular has entered our daily lives. A lot of people I know will search for something on Google, and if the don’t find it will just believe it isn’t there rather than look on another search engine.
It has become a part of our daily lives, I find it hard to imagine a life without things like Google and i think my kids certainly couldn’t. I think the educational support it provides is invaluable and our children will be smarter because of it! Of course it must be moderated, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem thanks to netnanny.

It is true that it is an invaluable tool, but we must not become totally dependent on it or trust it 100%. Remember Google is just a mail boy who’s content is mainly controlled by other individuals. Those people may not fully no what they are talking about or be nice people for that matter. Its a big world wide web, be careful out there π Aza
I can relate to this ! , I’ve heard some goody things about this blog !
Haha sounds just like my household, we google almost everything.

I’ve read the constructive comments here and agree with all of them. We shouldn’t forget to regulate the use of this powerful modern day tool, especially since our kids are using it.
Google is pretty good at filtering out all the rubbish these days so I wouldn’t worry to much about safety. That coupled with a descent internet security package like Panda your kids are bound to be safe, if i was you id stick the word “chat” in the ban list and all the other danger words.
Don’t forget to make use of the filter settings in Google itself.
Personally I prefer the AOL interface when you subscribe to them. Even though they totally assimilate your pc with their AOLness non of my family have problems using it, and we certainly aren’t very computer literate hehe. I find myself using Google a lot at work though and I’ve seen them using it in my kids school.
I hate that, when an ISP slaps all its crap on your PC and you cant escape their logo haha. Me and my family love google, have it set as the start page when we open up explorer. I think hanks to the internet the average intelligence of our kids for a given age has risen considerably especially regarding general knowledge, you dont know somthing? type it in and itll tell you in a few seconds π
A day doesn’t go by when i don’t get contradicted by Google hearing my kids say”Google said this” etc lolz
The best painter I can think of is Salvador Dali.
Personally, I prefer askjeeves but google is good to. I wonder what would have happened if Yahoo did merge with Google, the deal feel through 2 weeks ago though.

No way! Andy warhole all the way π
I must say I use wiki more than google now.
cheese, it is good, IT…is life
Google is a great resources that’s ever growing. The maps and world are awesome, I can see my house and the map facility is better than any route finder website.
