If you want to show kids the power of editing and music in storytelling, show them this remix of Dumb and Dumber as a horror movie. This would be a great assignment for students to remix video to change the genre.

This is often how I will get kids started on video editing. I will give them a bunch of random clips and ask them to put them together, to create something. Once they have spent some learning the technical skills, we compare what they have made; the differences caused by altering the music, editing choices, etc. Then we can actually get into talking about digital storytelling.
