Shop at your favorite stores 24 hours a day. Why go to the mall when you can shop online and avoid the traffic

This is a superb set of goals, Dean.

Edtechs worldwide please take careful note of Dean's ideas: notice that these goals deal more with learning and with communicating, and less with computer literacy. They deal more with passion and motivation in a collaborative learning environment (for both students and teachers), and less with <a HREF="http://www.fno.org/sept00/powerpoints.html" rel="nofollow">'PowerPointlessness'</A> (to borrow a Jamie Mackenzie term).

To the 'No significant difference' crowd, pay attention: it was never about the computers - it's about using the technology to leverage ideas like Dean's.

Great points Dean. How about adding "ending the reliance on proprietary software", "building internal capacity for homegrown 'solutions'" or "creating a free culture of sharing and collaboration, including resource sharing". I think my latter point extends your 2nd point, but gives it more of a focused edge.
